word into cnn this morning that the duchess of cambridge, kate, is in labor. max foster, the pay off is on its way, my friend. you have been waiting there patiently in a heat wave. now it would appear the time has arrived. >> reporter: we had a rumor she came in, then it got confirmed a couple hours ago. she came in four hours ago, 6:00 a.m. uk time. the labor is progressing normally. that's good news. they arrived around the back. kate and william in a car. it wasn't the big motorcade we had been expecting. she's inside with her own medical team. it's a teaching hospital. she could not be in better hands. >> max, are you getting updates in terms -- we just got this update she's in early labor and

progressing well. how are they keeping you up to date? >> reporter: there's a general e-mail and we chat on the phone. we are not getting a lot of updates, i have to say. the point about her coming into early stages of labor, there was talk about her being induced. there's no sign that has happened. that doesn't imply she was induced. to give you a sense of the interest in the story, if you swing the camera around, this is one of three press pens here. it's gone completely mad. i'm partly to blame. as soon as i get the e-mail from the palace, i came out. they have buckingham palace and a whole set up there as well. this is in terms of media saturation, we are up there. >> we talked to you last week and you could see a few other press areas set up and people talking. listening to you, there's a buzz behind you.

another story we are watch sg the extreme weather from coast to coast in normally dry phoenix, thunderstorms that washed out roads leading to dramatic water rescues. helicopters needed. drivers were trapped in their vehicles by the rushing floodwater. as much as two inches of rain fell in the phoenix area sunday. thousands of residents and tourists allowed to return to their communities near palm springs, california. they have been evacuated because of the mountain fire. it burned 30,000 acres. heavy weekend rains were a help to battling the blaze. it destroyed dozens of homes. the fires are 68% contained. >> that is good news. while the heat across the country has been followed by a cool wave, many folks are impacted by severe weather. indra petersons is tracking that. good morning to you. >> good morning. >> this is one of those summer

that is is going to be remembered because of intense weather. >> it doesn't stop. the heavy rain in june and july. we wanted relief again. now we have to pay the price in terms of rain to get the relief. after a week long heat wave, thunderstorms battered the nation. in the west, thunderstorms in las vegas, nevada snapped trees and utility poles. watch as this amateur video captures a lightning strike that knocked out power to the area. look at this photo taken at wrigley field in chicago friday night during a pearl jam concert. heavy rain delayed the concert for hours. >> reporter: in cleveland, ohio, an ef-1 tornado ripped a wall off this building at the college. >> came to the left. the building is unstable.

>> down south, a flash flood washed out this road leaving 100,000 families stranded. in southern california, residents were allowed to return home after the rain helped firefighters battle stubborn firefighters. >> it's a blessing we can come back to work and our homes. >> reporter: five lives lost in wisconsin from last week's heat wave. >> call 911. >> reporter: an elderly woman was found dead inside an unair-conditioned home. her body temperature, 110 degrees. the good news is we are seeing relief from the heat today. temperatures milder across the country. unfortunately, it means more rain is in the forecast. the threat of heavier thunderstorms along the cold front. the relief is finally here. >> it was a long week. thanks. turning to ohio and a startling discovery, three

decomposing bodies found and a man in custody. police are asking why and searching for clues. >> reporter: law enforcement and cadaver dogs. three bodies found layered in plastic and taped up. neighbors in disbelief. all three victims appear to be young, african-american women. a car in the garage where one victim was found led investigators to this man, 35-year-old michael mad son is in custody. he was convicted of attempted rape and a registered sex offender. >> we are protecting the public from him right now. he will receive his due process. he has lot of questions to answer. he owe this is community a lot. >> reporter: investigators think he could be a copy cat mimicking the crimes of anthony sew el.

>> in a proximity to where he lived. the m.o. was the same. each body wrapped in several plastic bags. he's probably tied to him. >> he was sentenced to death in 2011 for killing 11 women in ohio. the search continues as authorities fear the worst. >> i hope and pray we do not find more bodies. however, we are dealing with a sick individual. we have reason to believe there might be more victims. >> reporter: east cleveland's mayor calls this atrocious. >> we know if he had been out for one more hour, there's no tell whag would have happened. >> reporter: a representative could not be reached. i'm katie myrrhry, reporting. >> troubling story there. the massachusetts police photographer in trouble for leaking these pictures is getting a lot of public support this morning. sergeant steve murphy faces

disciplinary hearing for photos he took of the surrender to police. he did it to protest rolling stones cover photo which glorifies the bombing suspect. now a face book page called save steve murphy wrapped up 30,000 likes. many comments thanked him and people are glad he leaked the photos. president obama's comments on the zimmerman verdict are resinating this morning. some say it could have been him 35 years ago walking down the street. he called for a controversial stand your ground law and others like it around the country. >> i ask people to consider, if trayvon martin was of age and armed could he have stood his ground on that sidewalk? >> stand the ground law may need to be reviewed by the florida legislature or any other legislature that has passed such legislation. obviously, a lot of things need to come up for review.

>> there were more rallies this weekend after the verdict. in houston, 1,000 demonstrators demanding justice for trayvon. it remained peaceful with many police present. there were rallies saturday in 100 cities. 100 cities including atlanta, dallas and miami where trayvon martin's father spoke. >> overwhelming. it just goes to show the love and support that our families and friends have for us here in miami and across the country. it sends a message to the nation that we are not going to sit back and let our children be killed and don't say anything about it. >> another deadly weekend on the streets of chicago, police investigating now several shootings since friday that left at least six people dead and more that you know a dozen wounded. more than 200 people killed in the city of chicago this year already. coming up on "early start,"

investigators are still trying to figure out what went wrong at an amusement park that left a woman dead and whether her safety concerns were ignored. >> reporter: the texas giant starts with a spine tingling drop. this is where witnesses say they saw rosy fall from the wooden roller coaster. carmen brown was next in line to get on the ride when she heard the screams. >> she goes up like this. when it drops to come down, it released and she tumbled. >> reporter: some witnesses told

media, she told a six flags employee she was worried it had not locked properly. they had to ride out the two minute roller coaster fearing the worst. >> they were screaming when they got back. they were screaming, my mom, my mom, i have to get my mom. >> reporter: they refuse to answer questions on camera. they said we are committed to determining the cause of this tragic accident. it would be a disservice to the family to speculate what transpired. there were just over 1200 ride related injuries in 2011. about 4% of those caused serious physical harm. roller coaster accidents are 20% of the injuries. the parks are loosely regulated and six flags is in charge of conducting the investigation, not an outside independent

agency. >> whatever organization comes in, whomever comes in, their work is the property of six flags. it will remain the property of six flags because there's nuting in texas or many other state that is make them have to release that information. >> reporter: the texas giant wasn't the only accident. at the cedar point amusement park in ohio were injured when a boat on a ride flipped over. cnn, arlington, texas. >> a tragedy for that family. >> the last thing you worry about when grow to a fun outing like that. >> the family had to stay on the two minute ride. >> torturous. the military may be getting closer to deciding the fate of guantanamo bay. it will help determine if the men will go on to trial or released back to their home countries.

the dow, s&p are up 19% a piece. it's a huge run. it's why you saw last week some $20 billion flow into stock mutual funds, people putting money to work in the market. it could be an encouraging sign because people are confident or a sign of caution because people are getting in after a 19% rise. maybe they are getting in late. the rise in mortgage rates has been breathtaking. rates have climbs more than one percentage point. the rush to lock in the rates may be helping the housing market. existing home sales in june are expected to rise 5.26 million is what the rate is supposed to be. that would be the highest rate of existing home sales since 2007. if you filled up this weekend, you might have done a double take when you looked at the receipt. if you look at prices two weeks ago, up 20 cents in two weeks.

zoraida sambolin this morning. our top story is kate, the duchess of cambridge. she is in a london hospital in what officials say is early labor. max foster is live with the latest. early labor can mean it's hours from now. who knows. what are we learning this morning. >> it could be hours or days. >> she came into the hospital in early labor suggests she wasn't induced. she wanted to have a natural birth. she came in about five hours ago. we got the formal announcement after that once they did initial checks on her and realized she should stay in. it's all happening. she has a full medical team inside. she has her own royal obstetricians. this is the best of the best here. it's a teaching hospital and a very famous maternity unit. she is getting the best possible

care. she arrived with william. it's kate, william and the medical team inside. >> just like every other couple, run of the mill, walking into the hospital. this is not run of the mill. this will be the heir to the throne, the third in line. this will be diana's first grandchild. the late diana's first grandchild. people are so keen about the story. >> that was the door where we saw diana with william for the first time. this is the same hospital. those pictures were iconic, have been played out ever since. this is why they are going to show you how much media interest there is here. it's going down the road. the other direction, you have the same, again. we have lots of members of the public now arriving as well. the police put up barriers. eventually, the public will be allowed up to there, i gather.

over all, they tucked her away. they probably don't have the television on. kate is very good about not tuning into that. william and harry, they read and watch everything. kate doesn't. >> it's interesting, victoria said they probably don't know the sex about the child. they are traditional in that way. this country would have a big shower. they are waiting to find out. >> that's right. i think the general feeling in the uk is there are so few surprises in life, why not have one. there's the added pressure of the fact if they knew, then a slew of people would know. it's better this way. they are very good at keeping secrets. we didn't know kate's wedding dress until she got out of the car. it will be exciting for them. their first child. they don't know the sex of the baby, so we wait. >> the same hospital where both the boys were born. i'm thinking about the contrast

of those so many years ago. we are in the age of twitter. the great kate wait has been trending on twitter. i imagine it's another place where tradition will change a bit. they will have the easel outside the hospital and the palace announcing the birth of the baby. >> they are keen for the baby to be born during socialable hours. they have to let the queen know first. if it's from 10:30 at night until 8:00 in the morning, the queen will be asleep. nobody can know. >> don't wake up the queen. >> it's what i love about america, if it happened, the sirens would be extra loud. they said this is a future heir to the throne. they are keen to keep a sense of drama. it could be on twitter. it would be an anticlimax. >> pomp and ciance.

two inches falling in the phoenix area sunday. all that rain led to treacherous flash flooding and turned roadways into water ways, stranding drivers. some of the worst flooding was reported in a patchy junction, arizona. >> look at that car. >> rain buried roads carried vehicles along like boats. the terrain there can't absorb it the same way. they are not used to that. the heat wave is subsiding. severe weather is still impacting many areas. indra petersons, you have been a busy lady. >> it's unbelievable. a lot of people asking what are the monsoonal rains we are talking ability. typically the weather goes west to east. during the summertime, the moisture pulls into the gulf and see see it move from the east. we are dealing with heavy thunderstorms. it brings relief for firefighters on the other side.

they really can't handle that rain, that ground isn't meant for it. we are talking the threat of floods over the next several days. we went from dry heat to flash flooding. talk about a weather pattern change. heavy rain in the northeast. some of these places, leesburg, ohio, 3.69 inches. it's really the story here. it does have one piece of good news here, relief. cooler temperatures. average temperatures we should be seeing this time of year in the forecast. new york 80. better than the 105 and 110 we were looking at last week. the low pressure is to the north. warm front and cold front pulling off that. all the moisture coming from the gulf is going to be with us. it means we are talking scattered thunderstorms. so, with that, yes, some of the areas will see heavier showers. where we see the heavier thunderstorms is hard to

predict. one to two inches of rain. mostly expected along the cold fronlt. green bay down to kansas city. that's what we are watching for. i am much happier with scattered showers in the forecast than 105 and 110. >> breaking the heat was key. >> it makes such a difference. >> huge. i'll tell you firsthand. >> pope francis heading for brazil to oversee the world youth day celebrations. this is his first overseas trip. he is the first latin american pope returning to his home region at a time when the church there is losing parishioners. he's expected to go in an open top vehicle and visit a shantytown and focus on service to the poor. significant trip, for sure. coming up, kathryn jackson taking the stand. breaking down in court telling

good morning. welcome back to "early start" this monday morning. the congressman caught tweeting a young model, he thought she was his young daughter. new day told you a dna test showed she wasn't. he's breaking his silence and he talked with our dana bash. >> reporter: how did it feel when you found out the woman you thought was your daughter was not? >> i was totally stunned. when i took the dna tests, i did it to satisfy her need. she said she didn't know who her biological father was. i thought it was protungtry.

i felt confident that i was the father. when i found out i wasn't, i was floored. >> how did you initially think she was your daughter? did you get a phone call from the mom? >> no, i thought about the mother. she had a biowritten up on her web page. she had a daughter born on the 22nd of april in '0u8. it's when we were together. >> this was not meant to be public. it was because you sent a tweet during the state of the union professing your love for her and you said wait a minute, it's my daughter. talk about what this has been like to be in the public arena. >> it's not comfortable. it's a personal issue. >> is there concern now about the fact that she has had these three years thinking, going from thinking one man is her father to another and back to him and the emotional roller coaster? >> we have both been on a roller

stay in dubai or leave. michael jackson's mother will be back on the witness stand when the trial resumes this morning. she faces more cross-examination from lawyers for aeg live. she became tired and confused on friday. aeg is liable for her sons death is the claim. here is a story with a happy ending. a man had to be rescued in hawaii when the boat capsized. guess what caused it? a 230 pound tuna. it grabbed on to a fishing line, pulled hard, and pulled him into the water. his leg was caught on the line. lucky, he was able to shake himself free. when rescuers got there, he was sitting on the boat. the tuna is still on the line. they got to keep the fish as thank you for their help in
